ABOUT
Joel Hoff was born in Colchester (UK). He was trained as an interior decorator before studying industrial design at the Muthesius Kunsthochschule in Kiel (Germany) and the Royal College of Art in London where he graduated with a Master of Arts in Design Products.
After his graduation he has worked briefly for Industrial Facility in London and for Stefan Diez in Munich, before establishing his own design studio and becoming a tutor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich.
Since he has developed products for companies such as HAY, Wagner and Gaggenau.
The Turn On light for HAY was awarded with the HAY Talent Award in 2014 and was the London Design Museum Design of the year 2015 social vote winner.
WORK
Joel aims to design objects for mass-production that do not fuel mass-consumption; to inspire people to own fewer things of greater quality that remain in use for longer. Through an understanding of manufacturing processes and their many different advantages and limitations, he wishes to foster longevity in terms of both materials and form.
